Background

Climate change has become a global challenge affecting many aspects of life, particularly for young people who will face its long-term impacts. To strengthen awareness, understanding, and the active role of youth in climate change adaptation and mitigation, the International Climate Initiative (IKI medium grant) funded RYCAM project (Rural Youth Climate Action Movement for Cool Farming in Indonesia) is initiating an Exchange Seminar with SLE on 23rd September 2026. The project develops net-zero farming technologies and youth engagement formats in Indonesia. RYCAM has organised a Young Cool Farming Challenge, Climate Business Field Schools, a climate action school challenge, and a rural youth camp involving more than 300 young people. This seminar aims to share experiences of RYCAM activities with project partners, the academic audience, practitioners and  the Indonesian community in Berlin. The Centre for Rural Development (SLE) moderates this exchange seminar. Travel funds are also supported by Erasmus+.

Objectives

  • Exchange lessons learned on engaging rural youth in climate action and net-zero farming initiatives in Indonesia
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange on net-zero farming technologies, including carbon reduction practices and circular agriculture
  • Foster dialogue and identify opportunities for future collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and Indonesian and German partners
