"Real cooperation instead of paternalism" - SLE portrait in D+C 08/22

In view of SLE's 60th anniversary, D+C's Sabine Balk sheds some light on recent developments:

Inmidst the ongoing Corona pandemic, SLE introduced its transformation agenda in 2021 which builds on:

  • Development cooperation (DC) must be aware of its responsibility.
  • "Real cooperation" is based on "equal footing".
  • Transformation knowledge should be acquired and transmitted in a mutual learning process by the Global North and South.
Thus, the SLE has also revised its post-graduate programme "International cooperation for sustainable development" (application period extended until 31.08.2022) and identified three transformation areas: 1) ecosystems and nutrition, 2) socio-ecological business and 3) governance and participation.

These topics were discussed by SLE members, current post-graduate students, alumni and further colleagues involved in DC during SLE's 60th anniversary in July 2022. These debates will shape SLE's research and education curriculum. As SLE's director, Dr. Susanne Neubert, summed it up: "We all have to develop."
