SLE DP 2019 1 The potential fo in Eastern Province Zambia 1 1

New Discussion Paper published on small-scale aquaculture in Zambia

In 2018, an SLE research team was in Zambia to prepare a comprehensive study on small-scale aquaculture. A discussion paper was produced as an additional product. This discussion paper describes how smallholder aquaculture is positioned in eastern Zambia and whether and how it can be further expanded.

Small-scale fish production has a high potential in the Eastern Province. The region has many water reservoirs and the fish market is almost entirely in the hands of smallholder family farms. There are no commercial fish farms. The paper provides recommendations on how potential actors can develop small-scale fish production in the region.

SLE alumni Mara Gellner (GIZ) and her colleagues Jonas W. Ng'ambi, Stefan Holler and Alexander M. Kaminski have summarised the results in a discussion paper which is available for download:
