International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction

“Too many people die in earthquakes, floods and storms because of collapsed buildings or inadequate planning. These tragedies can be avoided if we #BuildToLast #DRRday” (UNDRR):

It is widely recognized that the increasing number of natural disasters are hampering long term development achievements in many countries.  “Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Management into Planning Processes” therefore is one of the most pressing issues if we want to ensure sustainable success in our work as development and humanitarian aid practitioners.

At SLE, we see capacity development, mutual learning and understanding as key components of successful cooperation for sustainable and inclusive development as well as disaster risk reduction. Since 2010, SLE offers short-term training courses dealing with DRR. Our current training course (October 9-18, 2019) provides theoretical and practical knowledge, tools and methodologies on risk management related to major types of nature-induced disasters. It enables participants to successfully conceive and implement disaster risk reduction programs, grass-root actions as well as longer-term climate change adaptation.

The course “Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Management into Planning Processes” will take place again next year from 2 to 11 September 2020. Application will be possible at the beginning of next year. If you have further questions or would like to sign up for our annual newsletter, please write an email to sletraining[at]hu-berlin.de.

Check out our upcoming courses in November 2019: Management of Development Projects and Greener Cities – Climate Change Mitigation and Adapation for Sustainable Urban Development. We are looking forward to receiving your application!
