Join us for Climate Change Adaptation Practice and Policy: 5 – 16 August 2019 to develop professional skills for managing, coordinating, and designing effective adaptation initiatives in the policy and practice sphere. By  experienicing a wide variety of learning tools and methods (classroom, on-site visits, discussions with experts, collaborative learning, etc.), you will be able to apply specific methods and concepts, critically reflect and exchange views with experts, practitioners and fellow participants. Join us for Designing Participatory Workshops: 9 - 11 September 2019 to get a better understanding of how to plan, prepare and conduct dynamic workshops and to try out and reflect on some tools and methods from the facilitation toolbox for all workshop phases, including visualization skills, icebreakers and energizers. The course is directed to beginners without or with first experience in the design and facilitation of workshops. Trainers: Annika Buchholz & Miriam Holländer

Join us for Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Management into Planning Processes: 9 – 18 October 2019 to successfully conceive and implement disaster risk reduction programs, grass-root actions as well as longer-term climate change adaptation. By the end of the course you will not only know the concept, major elements and state-of-the-art technologies of disaster risk management – with a focus on disaster risk reduction (DRR)–, but also how to assess the context in which risk management and reduction take place, how to coordinate with different stakeholders and how to select vulnerable systems of interest (households, economic sectors, regions) as beneficiaries of risk management programs in a truly participatory approach. Join us for "Greener Cities“ for Sustainable Development in the Urban Century: 20-29 November 2019 to gain knowledge on timely implementation of innovative ideas, measures, and instruments for environmentally sound urban development on the ground. This course is an interdisciplinary introduction to how cities function as barriers and solutions to a more sustainable development in the „urban century“. By the end of the course, you will have understood selected strategies and instruments for environmental urban management and learned from multiple examples of good practice from high-, middle and low-income economies in order to be able to deduce implications from the concept of “green cities” for your own work. 3-day training course: 465,- euros 

8-day training course: 1240,- euros

10-day training course: 1550,- euros

Courses take place at the Centre for Rural Development (SLE), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Course hours are 9.00 am until 5.00 pm on weekdays unless otherwise noted.

Our short intensive courses promote learning through experience: 'Learning by doing' is the most important aspect of the SLE's training and teaching philosophy. Case studies, teamwork and other interactive methods create a learning environment in which participants can bring their own experience and link it to new topics and applications, addressing global and local development challenges. Course participantd come from various cultural backgrounds and professions which add to an intercultural and interdisciplinary exchange of in a diverse learning environment. After having participated actively in the course, you will receive a certificate of completion issued by SLE and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

While there is no application deadline, there is only a limited number of places available in each course and they are filling up fast. We are looking forward to receiving your application!
